Frequently Asked Questions
Can Carbona® Stain Devils® be used in the washing machine?
Stain Devils are not a pre-wash. For best results, you need to treat each stain completely, before laundering and drying.
Can I use Carbona® Stain Devils® on carpeting?
Carbona® Stain Devils® have not been tested for use on carpeting. However, we have had many consumers use them on their carpeting with great success. Doing so is at your own discretion.
Will the formula for ink remove permanent ink?
Permanent ink is permanent. Unfortunately, the stain is there forever.
Why do I need to put a cloth under the stain?
Stains can spread while being treated, so you need somewhere for the stain to go when you remove it from the material you are treating.
What if I can't put a cloth behind the stain or put the stained area in a bowl?
For best results we recommend that you follow the directions on the bottle. However, as a last resort, you may try dabbing the material with a white cloth soaked with the formula then pat dry. Repeating process as necessary until stain is gone.
Why do I need to flush the stain with hot water after treating it with Carbona® Stain Devils®?
You need to rinse out the formula because if you let the stained area dry out without rinsing, the stain can reappear. The hotter the water, the faster the stain removal process.
Will Carbona® Stain Devils® also remove the odor (like perspiration)?
Carbona® Stain Devils® are formulated for removing stains. Follow with regular laundering to remove odors.

Combination stains. This can make stain removal a bit more complicated and may require more than one Stain Devils formula to remove it completely. But if you value your garment, it’s worth the extra time.

I spent a pretty penny on a crisp new white shirt and the first time I wore it I got ink stain. I thought I would have to throw it out, until I found your Stain Devils. It worked like a charm! I’m telling everybody I know what a great product you have. Thanks!!!!
As a teacher, I get ink and crayon on my clothing much too often! Stain Devils #3 is great for getting those out quickly without a lot of scrubbing. I have purchased the whole set for myself and love having them all on hand to tackle any stain that may come along. My daughter was recently married and I gave her the complete set as a shower gift!
I restore and sell vintage linens. Lucky for me, I discovered Carbona Stain Devils several years ago, and they have saved many beautiful old pieces! Recently I found a gorgeous WHITE Appenzel-style embroidered hand towel — with a significant dark ink stain on the front. SD#3 to the rescue! A few soaks and the stain was gone. I’m a happy customer yet again! http://www.myplacetoyours.etsy.com
On the very first day of wearing a brand new Brooks Brothers white dress shirt, I had an unfortunate accident and ended up with 2 nickel-sized ink stains on the front of my shirt. Between the time of the stain and the time I finally decided to order this product in the mail because I couldn’t find it in any stores , the stain had 4 weeks to set into the shirt. When the package arrived, I went immediately and attempted to remove the stain, and within 5 minutes I couldn’t even identify where the stain used to be, even when holding the wet shirt up to a light! Absolutely amazing, and feels great when an otherwise ruined shirt can be brought back to life for less than $10!
This isn’t a question, but rather a testimonial to the effectiveness of your product. About a week ago, an ink pen fiendishly snuck into our washer, then made the transition into the dryer, in a load of light clothes (so there was no hiding that!). I thought that the whole load was ruined until my aunt suggested I try your product. I couldn’t believe the difference, and I will recommend this product to everyone I know. I only wish I’d have known about it a few years ago. It would have saved me from so many other washing machine disasters! 🙂
I actually don’t have a question but would like to tell you guys at Carbona my experience with your product. I work for Walmart and get ink and marker stains on my clothes A LOT. I some times forget their in my pockets and then do laundry. I recently bought some great professional pants and what do you know, ink stain all down my pant leg. I searched online how to remove a set in stain and they all pretty much said good luck or throw it out. I saw your little yellow bottle of stain remove for ink and crayons and thought for the price, why not? I’ve used stain removers in the past and none of them worked at all. I thought this would probably be no different. It took a day but all I can say is it was well worth it! Your product removed the black ink from my pants and did’t mess with its original color. Kudos to you guys for saving my pants! I would recommend your product of stain removers to friends, family, associates, and even my customers.
Just wanted to THANK YOU! for such great products. I had 2 different wash loads end up with an ink pen in them and your stain remover worked fantastic. Not only on my clothes but also cleaning the inside of my NEW dryer! So glad we found you at Albertsons grocery store. Wish you were in every store here in Venice,Fl. I tell my patients about your products when i have people complain about getting blood of clothes etc..in my office. Great stuff!!!!!!!!
I have to tell you how pleased I am with your products! My daughter bougt some new scrubs and was washing them with some older ones. She had left a pen in the pocket of some pants and, of course, ink bled all over all of them. I threw them back in the wash with Carbona 3 and got nearly every speck out. Then, a few weeks ago, a T-shirt faded on one of my husband’s dress shirts. I tried everything I had on it, even some Carbona, and nothing worked. I threw the shirt in with the cleaning rags. Today, I found Carbona Color Run Remover on the store shelf. Though I really didn’t think it would work, I got it. It took every spot out, and the shirt is back in his closet! Thank you so much for all your wonderful products; I now have a box in the laundry room for my collection of “little yellow bottles”.
I left a melon color sticky notes in the front pocket of a brand new shirt which was a Christmas gift. I tried a name brand stain removed which was advertised as tough on dried stains, however, that failed to removed any of the stain. I had some ink and crayon remover left so I poured on the remover, soaked the shirt and was ecstatic when the stain was completely gone. This product rocks.
I was skeptical… I had an unretracted red Pilot G-2 gel pen get a green Eddie Bauer polyester shirt pocket. I followed the directions to a ‘T’ on the number 3 bottle and it completely removed the stain. What a wonderful product!
I hate when my husband drives my new car!! Every time he does there is always a new problem! This time, mom-in- law put ink stains on my passenger seat belt & door! Of course she didn’t know that her pen would actually write! Any who…Thanks Carbona for lifting those stains!

It is seriously like magic. My husband threw some pants into the washer with a pen in the pocket and there were HUGE stains on a white blanket. I let the stain devil ink formula sit for about 15 minutes and washed it in the tub with hot water and the ink like melted away off the fabric. Then I threw it in the washer on whites cycle and it looks brand new; like nothing ever happened!!! Amazing product!!!! Highly recommend!
I used Carbona #3 on a pair of khacki shorts that had green marker all over the pocket. It did not work at all to get ANY of the stain off! I re-washed using hairspray (you just spray it on & rub until gone) It got every bit of it out. Don’t waste your money on the little Carbona bottle! Buy a 99 cent bottle of hairspray & you’ll be good to go!
Amazing!! I have a white couch and 3 kids under 5. My 1 year old found a pen and went Picaso on it. It took 5 bottles of the pen and marker remover but it came right off!! The couch is white again!! All my kids have written on my white couches with oen but this was the first time it came off 100% and actually looked new after!
